Various Units And Abilities Of The Protoss In Starcraft 2

Below, you will get a list of the new Protoss race units appearing in SC2, together with the strengths and their cons of each type of unit. Although I cannot explain every strategy in just one article, you will get a clearer picture of utilizing all the various Protoss race units in SC2 by the time you’re done with this article. That being said, let’s go through the list!

Zealot – Zealots are the straightforward initial unit of the Protoss race that requires a Gateway to begin training them. They also possess a “Charge” skill which enables them to intercept nearby enemies on a 10 second cooldown.

Sentry

The Sentry attacks from range that can attack both air and ground units. They have two very important abilities: Force Field as well as Guardian Shield. Force Field can be utilized to separate enemy forces and Guardian Shield is a big defensive boost for your army when going against ranged units.

Stalker

The Stalker is a lot like the Dragoon from Starcraft 2. The Stalker is ranged and can attack both flying and ground units but performs better against air. The Stalker possesses a unique new ability, Blink, that allows them to cut through space (allows them to pass through terrain) on a cooldown of 10 seconds. This gives the Stalker much greater mobility than the Dragoon had.

Immortal

The Immortal is one of the never before seen Protoss units in SC2. The Immortal only takes 10 damage per hit max (as long as their shields are up) and does increased damage to armored units. It’s considered the counter to a Siege Tank and is especially useful against opponents who field many ground units.

Colossus

The Colossus is the Reaver’s replacement from the original Starcraft. The Colossus deals splash damage over a generous area and is very effective versus light ground units like Marines, Zerglings, Zealots, and Hydralisks. It is however close to useless against heavy ground and air units.

Warp Prism

The Warp Prism is an air unit which can carry and drop off ground units. Also, is has the ability “Phase mode”, where you can then use Warp Gates to warp units to the Warp Prism’s target area.

Phoenix

The Phoenix is a fairly special flying unit. First of all, it’s only able to attack air units. Also, it does extremely little damage versus armored units, but deals substantial damage to light units. Because of this, it’s only particularly effective versus Mutalisks and Banshees.

Additionally, the Phoenix possesses and ability, Graviton Beam, which allows it to pick up ground units. Other Phoenix units are then able to attack the ground unit that is now foating in the sky. This ability along with their high speed manouverability is optimum for harassing enemy workers and disabling heavy ground units.

Void Ray

The Void Ray is an air unit unlike any Protoss air unit from the original Starcraft. The Void Ray is the balanced, doesn’t cost too much supply (3 supplies in this case) an air unit the Protoss did not have in the original Starcraft. Its beam charges up the longer it sits on the same target, and eventually cause massive damage when fully charged. Therefore, it’s a good idea to use the Void Ray to sneak in the side of an enemy’s base and allow it to charge up off of the enemy’s buildings. By the time they’re discovered, the Void Ray will be charged and ready to fight.

Mothership

The Mothership is the replacement for the Arbiter of the original Starcraft. Its Mass Recall as well as Vortex skill work much like the Arbiter’s Mass Recall and Statis Field, respectively (the Mothership’s abilities encompass a larger area). The major difference between the two is that the Mothership is bigger, more costly, and harder to produce. You can also only build one Mothership.
