The Long Awaited StarCraft 2 Overview
It’s extremely difficult to find a real-time strategy game that has both an outstanding multiplayer experience, as well as a quality campaign mode. But StarCraft II does that, lapping its predecessor with astonishing graphics, features, plus much more, while still keeping it’s general Science-Fiction effect.
The overall game spotlights on three different species: The Terrans, humans banned from earth, the Protoss, who use Psionic power, such as telekinesis, to overcome ordeals, and the Zerg, a race of genetically modified insectoids.
StarCraft II’s campaign opens following a story of Terrans Jim Raynor, the protagonist, and Tychus Findlay. There are twenty-nine missions in campaign mode, which Raynor commands, choosing his fate.
There are seven different chapters in the campaign, Mar Sara, Colonist, Artifact, Covert, Rebellion, Prophecy, and Final. Mar Sara consists of three missions, while the rest have four to five missions. You’re certain to be kept focuses and excited with this particular hybrid of fun and strategy. The characters have been in depth, and much more of a story, or sub-plot unravels while you progress with the game. There are over 3 hundred fifty achievements in the game, most of which can be obtained through the campaign.
The game itself focuses on the multiplayer experience, attempting to ensure that it stays as original as it’s forerunner, but upgraded, modern. You may play among the three races in multiplayer, trying to over come your opponent(s) with wit, skill, and strategy. There’s also a “build your personal map” mode where players are allowed to set terrain, time, resources etc… and play them. The multiplayer aspect is a major improvement, and will have many expansions soon.
One of the most exciting features may be the reinvented Battle.net (still free, obviously), used to record achievements, progress and much more, online. Battle.net offers players credits, as well as for quick battles, and never have to search for the perfect map. Rather than being in a mach with superior players, to the ones just starting out, it matches you with players in your difficulty allowing a reasonable match.
Who could resist playing the initial Nintendo 64, StarCraft, that started them on RTS’s? You could always run across a copy at a local flea market, or thrift store, and it’s worth the buy.
The next time you’re at Wal-Mart, or other major retailer, keep StarCraft II in your mind. It’s player depths, it’s astounding multiplayer, and it’s excellent campaign.
