If you use your mouse pointer for aiming you will also be able to shoot far more accurately. Your accuracy will become better if you hold the mouse pointer close to the group you want to hit.

All you need to do is draw an imaginary line between your target and the canon. This will quickly show you if you are going to hit or not. Getting really good at the game does however come down to practice and playing it regularly.
