Being a mage in the World of Warcraft can be quite challenging and fun. Although they are probably the weakest character set in the beginning they can become quite powerful later on. Here is an easy step by step mage leveling guide in your quest for power.
The easiest places to level are in wide open spaces like fields and the like. This is because it will allow you to run for safety and to choose your opponents. Being in enclosed spaces will be much more difficult and should be kept for higher levels or when you are in a group with an able tank.
To kill monsters on your own as a mage is fairly quite simple, using mostly missile spells. Usually you can begin your attack by using frost bolt on a monster you wish to kill. The frost bolt will slow it down and while it is slowed down follow through quickly by casting a fireball. If it is still coming at you, step back a few steps and cast the combination again and keep doing so until it stops moving, that is, it is dead.
Mana is your life, so to get more mana stock up on blue potions that will replenish this. Learn to spam missile skills like Frostbolt fireball, and Arcane missiles. Keep doing this until you reach level 25 at least.
You will need some friends once you reach level 25 so as to level up faster in the dungeons. Make friends with players who make able tanks like warrior type characters and you can be in charge of the damage dealing. Use AOE spells for really increased earnings in experience.
Doing AOE type damage relies heavily on the Frost spells. Pull in a mob with Improved Blizzard and once they get close use Frost Nova. Back up a bit and then use Improved Blizzard again. Doing this combination will kill most mobs and will level you up pretty quick. Once you have a mage leveling guide you will level up much faster.
