Starcraft 2 Zerg Scouting Tactics
Scouting is very important to being able to win in SC2. When you learn what your foe is planning, you can shift your strategy and shift your build based upon that knowledge.
If you want to get to Diamond League game play in SC2, you will have to become extraordinarily good at scouting. As an illustration, if you set up your scouting the right way, you’ll be able to discover when your foe is arriving before to them arriving, which allows you to keep yourself well guarded and to prepare yourself to retaliate.
For players of the Zerg species, scouting is crucial because their troops usually concentrate on one ability. One excellent technique is to constantly harassing your enemy as you scout him out. The reason this is a great technique is because you are able to determine the other player’s army as you keep them at bay. You will also be able to decide the smartest plan for attacking him. Zergs are able to utilize Zerglings and Mutalisks to continually antagonizing an enemy while you are spying on him at the same time.
By spying early on in the game, you probably will not discover a lot about your foe’s technology progress. However it will permit you to see if you are going to be ambushed early. For example, if you discover during your spying that your enemy has a Refinery completed prior to completing their Barracks, you are most likely going to be rush attacked by Reapers. When you’re scouting Protoss and you learn that they’re done with 2 Gateways, but the Cyber Core is not done yet, and they have absolutely no vespine gas available, you can be sure you are going to be attacked by a Zealot rush.
To make sure that you are not rush attacked have your Overlord do beginning game scouting, not your Drones. However, it is a smart strategy to deploy in a Drone scout if your Overlord is not able to discover the enemy base, especially in close air positions with four player maps. A surefire method that works against every species in the game is to dispatch in one or two Drones to your opponent’s base to poke around early on in the war. The moment your Drones are under the threat of being destroyed, make an extractor within your opponent’s base. Each and every time your makes a move to destroy it, abort the build and simply produce another one. By executing this tactic, you will reduce your enemy’s tech upgrades by tying up their vespine gas. It is important to note that you have to cancel the Extractors very soon so you can avoid a 75 mineral loss – the elimination of both the Drone and the Extractor.
