Playing Video Games Through The Years
My life as a gamer began when I was a young kid. I have played them for over four decades. I often marvel at how different the games are now. But there are ways that the games of the past are still similar to the games of today. When looking back on my years o playing it is fun to look at what has been, what is right now and what will come in the future and with the recent xbox 360 kinect release date and my rush to the store to get one for Christmas, it is a good time to write down my experiences as a gamer.
Pong was the beginning of my video game experience. There was nothing very complex about this gaming system. That did not matter because I got addicted to it. I would play my brother for hours on end. Nothing else was important. Becoming the best player was my goal. It cost my parents a fair amount of cash to purchase the system if I recall it correctly. I think they spent around $150 to get it. It was a lot of money back then and is very comparable to the cost of the systems that are sold today. The original consoles had only a little variety. You had a choice of one or two players. That was about it.
After a few years I turned to the Atari system. These allowed for multiple game cartridges to be plugged into them. I was no longer stuck with a single game. It was like having a mini arcade in my own home. I embraced the fun that these consoles were giving me. There was still games to be played at the mall with my friends. But now I could play some of those games in my own home. I was spending my own money to buy different titles to play. My only regret was not taking better care of these consoles because in today’s market people a lot for the old consoles and titles.
I grew older and more independent, but I still liked gaming. It was not as much as when I was younger. There was always some way to play a game in my home. When they came up with home computers, that became a part of my life. The internet opened up a lot of options too. After I got married and had children it all started to change. I pulled out my old consoles when my kids got old enough to try them. Gaming was still exciting.
The Ps2 seemed like the right choice for our family. Games were very realistic. There were games for kids of all ages. We bought games that kept our children entertained. And I also picked out some that I would enjoy. After the kids went to bed, I would start playing the games. It was difficult to put the controllers down some nights. It was like I was a kid all over again. I would get caught up in the excitement of the games. As an adult, I did not have as much time to play games as I did when I was a kid. At times I would go for weeks without playing. When I returned to the games, the excitement was still there. I do not think it will ever go away.
This Christmas bought the xbox 360 kinect release date and with it came a whole new world of video gaming that has my family and myself moving around and using the video gaming system as our own personal gym while my kids practice their football and baseball techniques. I do not think I will ever get too old for video games.
