All About Otakon – East Coast Cosplayers
In 2011, there will be convention that every fan of East Asian culture should be going to, and that is Otakon. If you are looking to go, you will want to book a room near the Baltimore Convention Center, as that is where it is held now. Many people go costuming as their favorite characters. Usually these are characters from anime, but they can also be from movies, video games, or other forms of comics. This convention has grown a lot since its humble beginnings and now there are over 20,000 people who go to it every year.
While there you can purchase art at the artist’s alley. If you’re an artist yourself, why not try to sell some? There’s a lot of things for you to actively do while you’re there. If you are a performer you can do a skit with your friends. There’s a thing called the masquerade where most skits are performed in front of a large audience. One of the most fun things to do, however, is to simply be amazed at all the costumes.
Everyone loves to get their picture taken, so why not look up photoshoot times before you leave? That way you can meet up with other characters from the same series. If you are less about the costume aspect of the convention, there is still a lot of other things that you can do. One popular activity is to watch movies, since they have a huge rotation throughout the day. Another is to play games in the game room.
If you are an adult you can get in to see adult movies after a certain time. You do this by getting a wrist band that says you are over eighteen. Usually these show some nudity or more violence then the ones shown throughout the day. Finish the night off with dancing at the club.
There’s a lot to do in these three days of the convention. It’s one of the biggest and most well known convention in the United States. Make sure you’re comfortable and don’t be sad if you can’t see everything, as there are events scheduled throughout the day, and it will be impossible to see everything.
