Is It Legal To Copy Wii Games?
“Is it legal to copy wii games?” For many people, that’s the first question that they ask once they get their brand new Wii home and realize how fragile their game discs are.
The brief response is an unequivocal “Yes!” It is perfectly legal to copy Nintendo Wii games. However the longer response is a little more complicated, and I will address that in the follow paragraphs.
Arguments one way or the other have been tossed about since the 1990s, when optical media gained popularity. However, the US government finally made it’s stance known in 2010 with the Fair Use Act. This act states that you are absolutely allowed to make copies of optical media that you have puchase. This applies to CDs, DVDs, games, and software. Most people in the know would actually encourage you to make backup copies as soon as possible after purchase to protect your investment.
When you make a copy in this manner, you’ll have a backup in case your original is lost or destroyed. What you do is to use the replica on a daily basis, in the original’s place. Then, when the copy wears out, you can make another copy off of the master to use daily. There is nothing legally wrong with making backups of games whatsoever. The government isn’t going to fine you or drag you off for “extraordinary rendition” like a terrorist for making these copies.
There is, however, a problem to address if you want to learn how to copy Wii games. You will need the use of a software program that can erase any licenses. The manufacturers place these limitations on the video games, in an attempt to stop the user from burning the video games and selling or giving the games to friends. They can do nothing to completely eliminate this problem, but they can make it difficult.
These game manufacturers are perfectly within their rights to put these encryptions on the games. However, it is also perfectly legal for you to remove the encryption. So, to assist you, a few software companies have created software which will remove the protections quickly and easily.
If you search the web for “how to copy wii games”, you’re bound to find multiple editions of this type of software. Best of luck!
