Is Computer Gaming Bad For Us

One thing that many people have an opinion on, is whether or not computer gaming is bad for us and this seems to be a hotly debated topic with no sign of a resolution. Those of us who love gaming will defend it vigorously, but those who see it as somehow threatening will continue their attacks.

It is easy for each side to dismiss the other but in fairness the arguments from both sides can be persuasive. Although I have no intention of trying to put an end to this argument in this article, I do want to have a look at both sides of the coin.

Gaming and the Arguments Against it

The main argument presented by anti-gamers is that it is something that affects our lives in a negative way. I am going to look at the two most persuasive arguments of how this can happen in this article. Gaming is viewed as making people a bit disassociated from reality; if they play games enough then they might begin to confuse reality for game.

Anti-gamers also feel that certain games can just make us more prone to violent outbursts. People feel that in the same way that putting junk into our bodies leads to junk coming out, putting violent thoughts into our minds leads to violent actions coming out.

Gaming and the Arguments for it

The defenders of computer gaming will view the claims made by the anti-gaming brigade as being so overstated that they verge on the realms of hysteria. There were actually only a few violent incidences where gaming was named as a factor and the issue here was that the person who carried out the violent act was already considered to be unstable. The fact that many gamers are very sociable successful people is enough to debunk these claims.

One of the best arguments for gaming is the fact that it is something that makes life so much more fun and that is what everyone wants. Of course it is always best to do anything in moderation and the same goes for gaming as well.
