How to Copy Wii Games and Protect Your Entertainment Investment

I’ve had several people ask me recently why it’s so important to learn how to copy Wii games. I always tell them that it’s because game are both pricey and easily damaged. These two factors make it critical to create backups.

The first reason is that game discs are not cheap! If you pay up to $55 on just one game, you don’t want to lose it or have it become damaged. As a Wii gamer, you’ve probably experienced this, and have had to face the reality of paying another $50 or more for another copy. When you find out how to copy wii games, you’ll be protecting your pocketbook, so that you don’t go broke replacing games

A related point is that Nintendo makes their games on a crappy optical disc format. And optical discs are notorious for being easily damaged. I mean, everyone has dropped a game for just a second and then picked it up and found a scratch on it. It’s ridiculous! The high prices wouldn’t be so bad if the games weren’t so damage prone. In the 1980s and early 90s, games came on cartridges. You could let your dog chew on them and nothing would happen.

There’s no way that you could do that with a Wii disc though. It would be destroyed instantly. My personal theory is that Nintendo made their games less sturdy on purpose so that people would have to buy replacements when they broke. This is a great reason to make archival copies of any discs that you bring home from the store.

And, of course, I’m sure that you’ve had the negative experience of losing your favorite games. Let’s face it – the games are tiny! They’re less than half the size of a standard CD. It doesn’t take much for one to fall out of it’s case when you’re out and about, on your way to a friend’s house. And then, once again, you’re stuck buying another copy of the very same game if you want to continue enjoying it.

So now your interest might be piqued, but you’re probably wondering just how you go about making copies of games. I’ll give you the skinny. The 411 as the hipsters used to say. You probably know that you can’t just make a copy using a tool like Nero. No, you have to use specialized software that can do 2 important things. 1st, it can burn in an ISO format to make the Wii think that the disc is an original Nintendo disc from the store. 2nd, it has to strip off the encryption.

So basically, what you do is to download the program (check out my blog for more info on where to find these). You install this app onto your PC or Mac, and then put your favorite game that you want to make a copy of into your CD burner on the computer.

In order to protect your entertainment investment, you’ll be glad that you went through this process. The first time you do it, it might take you an hour, as you learn the software. But after that, you should be able to whiz through and make each copy in less than 15 minutes.

Get it? It’s really pretty easy, and the money that you save versus replacing new games all the time is SO worth it.
