How Starcraft 2 Works

The thing about this game Starcraft 2 is that it is not as easy as everyone thinks it is. Sure playing in the lower leagues seems easy when you are facing newbies. But in order to get past the beginners stage you need to focus on a few things that will make you a better player.

There are so many skills to get down in game. Some of the more basic ones include developing a solid economy. Your economy needs to be strong which means you need to be pulling in as many resources as you can. The trick to this is to be constantly training a worker at your base until your resources are fully saturated. By fully saturated I mean having 3 workers per mineral field and 3 gathering from each gas.

Another important skill to achieve is scouting your opponent. This means sending a unit over to their base as early as 10 supply to see what they are going for. You must understand your enemy and once you get the information you need you will know exactly what to go for. Each strategy and unit has a great counter to it. There is no one build that will defeat everything.

You have to know your race and units inside and out. Know what they are capable of. This is all part of making those important decisions. As an example lets say you build a third expansion as Terran but your army is away from it since your primary base needs the most protection. So it would be smart to upgrade that command center to a fortress rather than an orbital command to protect.

The key to being a player to be reckoned with is not giving up in a game. If you lost a few workers from a rush early in the game you can still bounce back and return the favor. Having this kind of gaming mentality is what will separate your from the lower leagues.

Scouting should be done a lot. Each race has their own good ways of scouting. Zerg has lots of overlords to fly over. Terran can use a building to lift off and hover over the opponents base. Protoss has the best unit for scouting which is an observer that is permanently cloaked and is also a detector. This can be real helpful.
