Four Real Reasons that a Person May Hate Beta Testing Jobs for Video Games
4 Real Reasons to Hate Video Game Testing
Most people have heard about video game beta testing jobs, those that are interested in these positions normally go right after them. If you are curious as to why this career never entered your mind, I am here to shed some light on to why it may not be a fit for you.
Reason to Hate # 1: Testing video games can be a gaming hell.
Do you know anything about this job?
First you come into work each day at the testing site, and you have to be prepared for hours of self inflicted pain. Think about t his, playing a new game that just came out for hours on end. Rumor has it that if you stop playing even for a moment your life could be in jeopardy! (Ummm… okay, that may be a slight exaggeration, but can you imagine the gaming hell you are in playing the same level over and over for hours. Most people go home and have nightmares that first week, they wake up in the morning trying to catch imaginary gold coins that are floating above them Super Mario Style.)
Reason # 2: Video game beta testing is a pain in the butt.
Video game beta testing can literally be a pain in the rear. As if you don’t already sit at home on the couch enough, visit the lou, sit on your bum in the car to get back and forth to work… now you are going to sit for hours in front of a screen playing video games. This is insanity! Imagine what your butt would be saying if it could talk, it would probably slap you for this terrible behavior. You can believe that that slap would hurt too! I have heard that the glutei are some of the strongest muscles in the body.
Reason #3: Deadlines
Deadlines for video game beta testing? Come on, really! Yes, constant deadlines. You will be responsible for a project that must be completed in a certain amount of time. I have heard tale of fingers being chopped off of people that don’t deliver. It seems that once this story got popular the number of missed deadlines dropped… so maybe there is some truth to the story.
Reason # 4: You may know about games that could have came out but did not.
You would know about games that nobody else would know about. Why is this bad? Because the game did not come out! Imagine if you were a computer game tester that tested the game Warcraft Adventures Lord of the Clans when it was in the testing stage. Lets say that you found some irreversible glitch in the game that screwed everything up. You would record exactly how you found this glitch and then you would report it to your superior. Next thing you know they talk in the big table and they are saying things about not releasing this warcraft game because it has an irreversible glitch or something went wrong with the programming code and when you ask if they will release the game, and they say: Nooo.
You ask if they are going to release the game and you are told no. Why? Because you did your job! Ugh! The guilt!
These are the types of things you have to look forward to as a video game beta tester. Do you really want a video game beta testing job?
