Copy Wii Games: The (In)Complete Guide
Several readers have asked for more specific guidelines concerning how to duplicate Nintendo wii games, therefore I’ve written them up today so that you can enjoy!
Back in the day, when I was just a young idealist with a blog and a podcast about the Wii, I used to recommend that people installed mod chips inside of their systems so that they could play copied games. I no longer recommend that solution to anyone however. Now there is a better way that doesn’t involve opening up your Wii and mucking about with it’s motherboard like you had to do with a mod chip – thus you no longer have to void your warranty.
These days, there’s a more sensible choice. Some enterprising coder made a piece of software that will essentially strip the encryption from Nintendo wii games so that you do not have to mod your own Nintendo wii in any way in order to play the copied games.
But, before I ramble on and on, let’s get into the guide:
Step One:
Purchase a copy of the game copying software. You can find it at many online vendors. Save the file, ending in .exe, to your PC in a place that you’ll remember. You can use the same file for either PC or Mac with no compatibility issues whatsoever.
STEP 2
Set up the application. Find the file on the desktop. Double click on it. Hit next every time that it prompts you. You’ll be aware that you’re done when you get a screen informing you that the installation is complete.
Third:
Have you decided which game you want to copy first? I recommend your favorite or most expensive game so that you will have a backup of it as soon as possible. Open the CD drive tray on your PC or Mac. You can do this by pressing the button on the face of the drive. Insert the game disc into the drive.
Fourth:
Start the game clone application that you just installed. (Simply double click on the icon on the desktop)
Step Five:
Now, we get into the meat of this procedure. You’re going to “rip” a copy of all of the information on the disc into one single file called an ISO. Pick the selection in the game cloner utility for “read”. Drill down and have it put the .ISO on the desktop once again. Hit “start”. You can watch the progress bar at the bottom, but I suggest just going and smoking a cigarette or grabbing a drink for about 10 minutes while you wait.
Sixth:
Okay, in case you managed to get this far: Now i’m presuming that the copy finished properly. If not, start again at Step Two. Now, take out the game cd from your optical disk drive, and insert a blank CD or DVD in it. Any sort of CD or DVD which is suitable for your own drive works. Inside the applications menu, go for “write” function. Then scan to the file that it copied to your desktop. Hit “Start”.
Step Seven:
You’re done! Remove the copied disc, insert it into your Wii, and then play that bad boy!
What this means is that you no longer have to abide the tyranny of the game companies – you can backup ALL of your games and never have to pay to replace a lost or damaged game again!
