Are Computer Games Bad For Children
Computer games and whether they are bad for children is something that is often strongly debated. There are strong views on both sides and both sides offer some reasonable arguments at least a lot of the time anyway.
Because computer games have been around for about forty years now, we can kind of see the impact that they can have on a person’s life. One thing we do know however, is that more and more people seem to be playing computer games than ever before.
Anyone who is opposed to computer games for children will have plenty to say on the topic and most of what they do have to say seems to make a lot of sense. Being active is something that computer games do not encourage and instead children seem to spend far too much time in their rooms.
There is also the worry that children may not be able to tell reality from their gaming and this could lead to an increase in violence. There have been a few violent episodes where gaming was seen as at least a contributing cause.
However there are many pro-gamers and they have very sound answers to the worries that the anti-gamers have. It isn’t only games that discourage children from being active. Should we put a stop to reading for children because if you look at it, surely reading books would also cause children to be less active?
We could also argue that gaming is better than the book when it comes to keeping children active because there are many games that require movement on the part of the child. The argument about games making people more violent could be countered with the fact that there are some people who are unbalanced and it is these people who will choose violent games in the same way that they would choose a book with a violent theme. However no one can deny that there are a number of benefits to gaming such as the fact that children get introduced to gaming and that hand-eye coordination is developed.
